    To preserve the Southland Credit Union assets by effectively controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments, and/or recovering collateral. Manages the disposing of repossessed collateral. Manages the daily collection activities and preparation of department reports. Reviews and implements collection techniques that provides for a high level of efficiency. Effectively monitors real estate foreclosures process, appraisal process and reports any financial impact to organization in a timely manner. 


    Provides strong leadership in directing all collection activities, coaching of staff and establishment of

    individual goals that inspires the highest level of individual and department performance.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Supervises all Collection department employees. Responsible for employee motivation, development, counseling , discipline and evaluations.  Develops employees through department training on an on-going basis.                                                                                                                                                                                          
    • Hires, schedules, trains, and manages all collection department activities.  Allocates resources to meet operational needs within the department;  reviews and approves, denies, or modifies collection recommendations from subordinates.                         
    • Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail; takes appropriate action to bring current.                                                 
    • Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans, risk based and indirect lending delinquency trends.                   
    • Assists with the sale of repossessed collateral; determines additional investment to be made in collateral, if required.           
    • Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; instructs collectors to takes action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.

    Knowledge and Skills

    Experience: Five to ten years of similar or related experience.


    Education: A four-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.


    Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.  Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.


    Other Skills:         

    • Knowledgeable in the usage of Excel and Word programs
    • Must have excellent and professional communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and be able to multi-task with successful results
    • Exhibit professional demeanor in all situations
    • Good problem solver and research skills
    • Exhibits a "team" attitude throughout the organization
