Role

Develops, interprets and implements complex financial/accounting concepts and advanced techniques for financial analysis, planning, and control.  Provides expert advisory capability and interpretation on all levels of financial activity.  Provides specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance; conducts and coordinates the gathering, analyzing, summarizing and the preparation of recommendations regarding financial plans, trended future requirements, operating forecasts and similar complex financial matters.  Organizes information from a variety of sources to establish data banks for use in analyzing and creating future plans and forecasts.  Performs complex economic research and studies on subjects such as rates of return, depreciation, capital requirement, investment opportunities, investment performance, impact of government requirements and the like.  Prepares and presents reports of findings and recommendations to management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of the Credit Union's month/quarter/year-end closing, preparation and distribution of financial statements and related reports. Including but not limited to the quarterly NCUA Call Report (5300), FHLB blanket lien, and various government surveys (Census, BLS, etc.).
  • Conducts analyses of product profitability and/or cost benefit analysis and/or break even analysis for various projects. Continually reviews methodology to improve and enhance financial & operational results; makes recommendations to Controller.
  • Responsible for the gathering of input and all other tasks relating to asset and liability management activities, including the utilization of ALM and other software to produce required reports. Prepares reports for Asset/Liability Committee to include, but not limited to Balance Sheet and Income Statement forecasts, interest rate forecasts, Simulation models, projections regarding interest rate spreads, CAMEL ratios, GAP analyses and rate shock analyses. Prepares loan and deposit rate sheets, yield calculations and ad hoc analyses.
  • Coordinates the preparation, establishment and maintenance of the Credit Union’s financial budget. Participates in the planning process, provides other managers, and senior personnel with historical detail and other input, as appropriate. Prepares management control reports that compare actual versus planned budgetary performance. Performs detailed statistical analysis of individual income and expense items to identify the basis for deviations from plan and reviews the results with the appropriate Credit Union associates. Participates in the preparation of internal earnings and other financial reports for Credit Union management or as required by regulatory authorities. Prepares periodic budget forecasts, interest rate risk and liquidity reports. Monitors, researches, and reports variances on an ongoing basis.
  • Analyzes financial reports and records, makes studies & recommendations relative to accounting of reserves, assets and expenditures. Coordinates financial issues with other departments and parties.
  • Coordinates accounting & financial matters and provides advise to other departments such as Operations, with calculations of ROI on Marketing campaigns, e.g., set up models for calculations.
  • Promotes and participates in various activities to elevate the Credit Union’s image, to develop additional business and to support the goals of the Credit Union.

Knowledge and Skills


Experience:

Five years of similar or related experience in financial analysis, preferably with credit union experience.

 

Education:

A BA/BS degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field is required.

 

Interpersonal Skills:

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and
tact. Work involves frequent contact with internal and external stakeholders and requires strong interpersonal and communication skills. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

 

Other Skills:

1. Knowledge of accounting principles and theories; and knowledge of finance principles and theories.
2. Must be able to work and travel independently and use general office equipment such as
telephone and personal computer.
3. Knowledge of the following preferred: Advanced skills in MS Office (i.e.; Excel, PowerPoint, Word); Symitar, ProfitStar, Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting/analytic/programming applications.
