Role

Responsible for ensuring the daily operations of the collections department run effectively & efficiently. Supports the manager for effective collection methods and to reduce/mitigate losses and increase recovery rates for the credit union. Coaches the staff for optimum member service and reducing losses. Responsible for meeting/exceeding collection goals.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist staff with problems; and allocates staff resources as needed to meet assigned collection goals.
  • Train, directs and evaluates associate performance for assigned staff within the department; participates in the recruitment and hiring of new associates. 
  • Monthly - prepares loans/shares recommended for charge off to the Board; Repo report for month end closing; DQ mortgage report. 
  • Daily/Weekly – monitors delinquent accounts progress to resolution; PTP; dollars collected and coaches the staff accordingly.
  • Manages 3rd party relations; provides backup to collection staff and provides analysis of DQ trends in the portfolio. 
  • Provides variance reports to Accounting on a timely basis.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience:

Five years of collections experience in a financial institution or related experience.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

 

Education:

AA degree or equivalent completion of a specialized certificated course of study at
a State Accredited facility.

 

Interpersonal Skills:

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and
tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal
or sensitive nature. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships
with other entities (companies and/or individuals) is necessary.

 

Other Skills:

Functional with spreadsheets and word processing software.
Thorough understanding of Symitar and Credit Union laws & regulations related to collections.
Advance understanding of collection techniques, software & negotiations.
