Role

The Senior Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in driving HR strategy, ensuring compliance, and serving as a trusted resource to leadership and employees. This role requires a strong understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and organizational development. The Senior HR Generalist will lead initiatives related to compliance, policies and procedures, and oversee high-impact special projects. In addition, the role partners with management to provide consultative guidance on employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Expectations:

  1. Ensure all HR processes and procedures are completed accurately, thoroughly, and in compliance with applicable laws, plans, and managerial guidelines.
  2. Recommend and implement streamlined programs and processes to reduce costs and improve service for internal members, in alignment with departmental goals.
  3. Educate, guide, and respond to associate concerns in accordance with Southland Credit Union’s Performance and Service Standards, maintaining confidentiality and consistency.
  4. Maintain a professional, courteous, and collaborative work environment that fosters positive associate relations.
  5. Execute all HR functions and projects efficiently, meeting or exceeding established timeframes and goals.
  6. Comply with all applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and the Patriot Act.
  7. Keep management informed of relevant issues and matters in a timely and confidential manner.
  8. Lead by example with honesty, integrity, and confidentiality in handling all personnel information.
  9. Communicate proactively, clearly, accurately, and consistently in all aspects of work.
  10. Continuously self-educate on current and emerging HR laws and compliance requirements, applying knowledge accurately and with managerial guidance.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience:

Four to six years progressive Human Resource professional experience. HR certification preferred. Training in Federal, state laws and application of HR policy in Financial Institutions.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.

 

Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate with others, requiring diplomacy, trust, and the ability to obtain cooperation both internally and externally.

 

Other Skills:

1. Working knowledge of employment and interviewing practices, Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Cobra.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and ADP Workforce Now.
3. Self-starter capable of working independently.
4. Effective verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
5. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality of information.
6. Knowledge and experience with Workers’ Compensation, Leave of Absence procedures, and applicable state regulations.
7. Competence with office equipment, including desktop/laptop computers, copiers, fax machines, and telephones.
8. Strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
9. Must be a Team Player with a collaborative mindset.
